mapdance
Launched in September 2006 mapdance is University of Chichester’s exciting new MA Student Performance Company. Last year mapdance toured to Denmark and Germany and the company undertook an extensive UK Tour with the repertory including maker Franziska Ecker’s work ‘Four’.
Touring nationally and internationally from February to June 2007 the company has commissioned new works from leading British choreographers: Bettina Strickler (ex Protein Dance), Kerry Nicholls (k/n/d/c), Pete Shenton (New Art Club) and Erica Stanton. Ranging from athletic and intricate movement driven work to the theatrically acute, mapdance’s programme for 2007 offers a diverse and refreshing evening of dance shorts.
Directed by Jerwood Award Winner, Yael Flexer (Bedlam Dance Company), and in line with University of Chichester’s reputation for dance and new technology research, mapdance adopts a broad approach to dance making and performance. Alongside touring, the company wishes to develop site-specific, screen-based and interactive installation projects, working with established artists as well as young choreographers. The company is keen to work in partnership with venues, festivals and promoters, creating special events and participatory educational and performance projects.
The company also offers tailor-made educational residencies delivering one-off workshops, creating dedicated choreographic projects or short ‘curtain raisers’ with participants to complement the touring programme. Residencies are led by company performers specialising in pedagogical dance studies alongside performance.
