Makers Route
On this route artists with an existing practice develop their making practices, with the possibility of extending them into wider contexts (site, studio, digital interface, screen and theatre.)
We work with a maximum of 4 makers through three projects, supporting individual concerns: through mentoring, apprenticeships to visiting choreographers and/or other artists’ studio labs, company class with map, and two public platforms. Key to this Masters programme are lectures by visiting artists and academics and the choice of specialist options:
New Media and Performance Practices, with the possibility of exchange study in Buffalo, USA, with a team led by Elliot Caplan (TV studio, state of the art equipment, Green Screen facilities); Pedagogical Approaches; Experiencing Arts Therapies.
You will interrogate your work in the context of current developments in the field and take your work to a deeper level through research and performance, in building a portfolio of work during your year of study. Makers are also invited to apply for the mapdance commission which becomes part of the company’s UK and international rep.
Proposals from two or more artists wishing collaborate are welcomed, as are applications from recent graduates wishing to expand on advanced level choreographic enquiry. The course is not suitable for beginners.
Staff expertise: Screendance, New Media in Dance, site responsive work and theatre dance. Visiting lecturers have included Lucy Cash, Kevin Finnan, Fiona Wright, Simon Vincenzi, Rosie Lee, Frank Bock, Mark Jeffery (Goat Island). Apprenticeships in 2007/08 were to Nick Hafner, Hannah Gilgren, and Liz Agiss.
