Independent Research Route

Independent Research is a valuable arena of study for graduates of all ages and those with extensive professional experience in dance who wish to engage in further study. Choreographers, dancers and teachers have found this a particularly useful way of both developing their understanding and extending their existing practices.

On the Independent Researchers route, you undertake a large-scale dance research project of your choice that builds on your existing interests, knowledge and experience, enabling you to develop your research skills to a more advanced level. Research can be practice-based or focus entirely on theory.

Throughout your research project, you will be guided by specialist researchers with international reputations. They will help you to extend your present achievements, discover new ways of working and explore critical frameworks that deepen and extend your understanding of your research concerns. Recent studies include investigations into:

You will be part of a lively research culture, and have the opportunity to attend a regular programme of performances and research presentations given by visiting companies, choreographers and researchers, as well as by students and lecturers at Chichester. You will also meet regularly with other independent researchers to exchange and talk about different ways of interrogating theory and practice, and share challenges and ideas with students from the other MA Routes.

You can enrol either full-time or part-time to fit in with other commitments.
